New 30-day Retention!

Giganews is pleased to announce a new standard in newsgroup retention. We will now offer 30 days of article retention in all binary newsgroups. This represents over 30TB of news article storage!

Giganews has completed development and testing of a complete upgrade to our server software as well as major upgrades to the physical server clusters. The changes have now been implemented on all of our servers, bringing you this higher level of retention.

As a result, some of the more popular binary groups will contain as many as 5 million headers. Several news readers may not be capable of handling the size of these large newsgroups. If you find that your news reader is limited in this manner, we have a new option on our control panel, Modify/Update Article Limits, that will allow you to specify a maximum number of headers for our servers to send, when your news reader requests them.

We thank all those who assisted in the testing of the upgrade. Our engineering staff is continuing to work on further enhancements that will allow us to increase retention even more in the future.
