Dump Truck to be discontinued for all Usenet accounts

Wednesday, October 21, 2015

As of December 19, 2015, Golden Frog’s secure online storage product, Dump Truck, will be discontinued. This means we will be removing Dump Truck from all of our Usenet accounts since the service is going away. Please visit the Golden Frog Blog to learn more on why Golden Frog is discontinuing their Dump Truck product.

What do I do with files currently stored on Dump Truck?

If you’re currently using Dump Truck, you’ll need to transfer your files out of the program prior to December 19. You can transfer your files off Dump Truck quickly and easily by using the Dump Truck apps, or by using a third-party WebDAV app.

How Does Heartbleed Affect Giganews Customers?

Wednesday, April 9, 2014

With the recent announcement of the Heartbleed Bug, many customers have asked if Giganews’ services were affected and whether customers need to take any action. Rest assured all Giganews services are currently safe from the Heartbleed Bug. VyprVPN and the Giganews website have not ever used SSL libraries vulnerable to the TLS heartbeat exploit. Golden Frog patched Dump Truck’s SSL libraries on April 8, 2014, and new SSL keys for the service were generated and deployed successfully. However, due to the nature of the bug, we still recommend all customers change their password, especially if you have used Dump Truck. Change your password »

Are Giganews Customers using VyprVPN Apps Safe from the Heartbleed Bug?

Golden Frog’s apps use OpenSSL 1.0.1e, which is vulnerable to the Heartbleed Bug, for OpenVPN connections. However, even though the apps use a vulnerable version of OpenSSL, customer information is not at risk. To be compromised, the apps would need to connect to servers that send malicious heartbeat packets. VyprVPN apps only connect to VyprVPN servers, which do not send malicious packets. Even if the VyprVPN apps were somehow tricked into establishing a connection with a malicious server, the apps do not possess any information they are not already sending to the server. There is nothing a malicious server could gather from the client that it wouldn’t receive anyway.

Golden Frog will be preparing updated versions of the apps that use non-vulnerable versions of OpenSSL, but at this time, Giganews customers are not at risk using the existing versions of the apps.

What is the Heartbleed Bug?

The Heartbleed Bug is a bug in OpenSSL’s implementation of the TLS heartbeat extension. When exploited, it allows an attacker access to the contents of the SSL server and client memory. This memory may include the SSL keys, the content of the data traversing the connection, and usernames and passwords transmitted or stored within the memory of the client and server. Because of the complete compromise of the SSL session and secret key data necessary to keep communications secure, this is considered an extremely critical bug. A full overview can be found at http://heartbleed.com/

Private Sharing Beta Now Available for Dump Truck Web App

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Collaborating and sharing files and folder using Dump Truck secure online storage is now a lot easier. Golden Frog just made available its new Private Sharing beta feature for Dump Truck to all Giganews users. Using the Dump Truck Web App, users can now use Private Sharing to easily and securely collaborate on files and folders with other Dump Truck users. This new feature is ideal for small businesses, and for sharing files with family and friends. Giganews users can also easily invite anyone to access shared folders and assign a permission level, with just an email address. When a privately shared file or folder is changed, added or deleted, the changes synchronize to all users who have joined the share.

Previously, Dump Truck only enabled users to share files and/or folders with others via a Public Link. Users also had the option to add an expiration date and a password to the link but they could not collaborate on these files. The new Private Sharing feature now allows for collaboration, easy access and secure sharing!

Dump Truck Private Sharing Features

  • Any changes to a folder will show up for all users who have access to it, allowing for easier collaboration
  • There are multiple permission level options for each folder. You can also edit the permission level after you share the folder
  • Unlike many competitors, Dump Truck supports Read-Only access. If you choose this option, users can view files but cannot modify them
  • With the right permission levels, users can move, rename and edit shared files and folders
  • Users can access shared files across all Dump Truck desktop, mobile and web applications

How to Get Started

Dump Truck secure online storage is included FREE with every Giganews account. Any Giganews member using Dump Truck can access the Private Sharing Beta. Here’s how you can get started:

  1. If you’re not already using Dump Truck, download the Windows, Mac, Android or iOS app today
  2. If you’re an existing Dump Truck user, update the Dump Truck Mac or Windows app. Note: You could lose some of your data if you don’t update your apps first
  3. Log into the Beta version of the Web App and start sharing folders with Dump Truck users using their email address
  4. Share your valuable feedback with Golden Frog by using the Beta Feedback form on the site

Desktop App Update Required

Although you can share folders via Private Sharing only through the web app, you can access shared folders via our desktop apps. Privately shared files will be synced to your desktop using the Dump Truck desktop app. Golden Frog recently updated the Dump Truck Mac and Windows apps to version 1.2.2 to support the Private Sharing beta. In order to use Private Sharing, you must update the Dump Truck desktop app. Note: You could lose some of your data if you don’t update your apps first. Update from within the app by clicking on “Update Available” in the main menu, or you can download the latest version of the Mac or Windows app.

Dump Truck secure online storage is included FREE with every Giganews account. Use Dump Truck to store, sync and access your photos, documents or files from anywhere in the world.
